Aims
This module aims to help students with a basic Chinese knowledge to continually improve their Chinese study, bringing their Chinese language proficiency to a level equivalent to CEFR A2.
Learning outcomes 
A. Be capable of understanding enough provided Chinese which is clearly and slowly articulated and expressing simple opinions or requirements orally in a familiar context such as making arrangement for daily activities, seeking help, talking about weather, holidays and hometown, also be able to use some basic time markers.

B. Be able to read and understand frequently used expressions, sentences and straightforward moderate-length texts within a known area.

C. Can write in simple terms about aspects of their backgrounds, living environment and personal needs.


Method of teaching and learning 
Communicative language teaching involves a high level of interaction between teacher and students. Teaching and assessment will revolve around the setting and completion of specified language tasks.

This module includes 2*2 hours seminars plus 1 hour tutorial per week. Students will have 4 hours per week of integrated skills class, covering reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The tutorial session will be designed to support student learning in and after class.

Syllabus 
You will learn elementary Chinese language and culture and become fluent in daily communication through a series of structured lessons.

Understand stroke order in writing characters; learn the basic radicals in characters.

You could use basic Chinese words and expressions to seek for help, to illustrate and descript and to compare things in your daily life.

Communicate basic needs in a Mandarin Chinese-speaking environment.
