Aims
This module aims to develop in students a good understanding of the fundamental principles of international finance. In the first few lectures, the aim is to provide students with an introduction to the core principles of finance, valuation and financial decision-making, within the domestic setting. These topics are thereafter extended to incorporate the international dimension, especially in relation to foreign exchange rates and markets, and foreign exchange exposures.

A Understand the process of globalization

B Evaluate the characteristics of an ideal currency and the choice of exchange rate regimes

C Understand the Balance of Payments of nations

D Explore the main approaches to exchange rate determination

E Distinguish between the three major types of foreign exchange exposures

Method of teaching and learning 
The teaching and learning strategies employed include a combination of:

a) Lectures – main concepts, fundamental principles in international finance.

b) Tutorials - problem-solving and group discussion sessions.

c) The university’s virtual learning environment ‘Interactive Communications Environment’ (ICE), for the dissemination of material, as well as for giving and receiving feedback to and from students.
